CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Keep reading to find the answer! CrossFit News Page: Keep an eye out for news updates regarding the competition
Women's competition
The swim event was the start of the women's division at the 2021 Crossfit Games. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. Koski was the overall winner after keeping her lead throughout the competition. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.
The women's competition is filled with top-level athletes. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. The competition has 15 individual events. Therefore, it's likely that the first cut of 30 athletes will occur after the seventh or eight event. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring table used in the 2019 games was nearly identical to the one used in 2021, so it's likely that this will continue to be the case.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field then drops to 75 athletes. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. The top 20 athletes will then compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was criticized by veterans Games participants who felt the cuts were too large.
Reebok equipment
Reebok announces new CrossFit Games clothing, shoes and other equipment. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar upper promotes breathability while ensuring durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. Reebok has been sponsoring the Games for over a decade and now it is clear that its involvement will be declining. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
